20TH ANNUAL FALL MEET
Enjoy Clinics, Silent Auction, Dealers, Displays, Layouts, and Door Prizes.

Door Prizes: We have requested door prizes from many manufacturers, vendors, and local hobby shops. These will be given throughout the day, with a few nice ones reserved for pre-registered attendees.

The Division has organized many activities and presentations that should appeal to both experienced modelers and those just starting with our great Hobby. There will also be some activities included for the non-modelers in your family. The doors will open for the general admission at 9:00 a.m. Activities at the school should be concluded by 3:30 p.m., and maps will be available for tours of some layouts not at the school. You can plan for a full day of activities and interaction with other modelers! If you have any questions about the meet that are not covered in this flyer, please contact the Meet Chairman, Bob Folkmann, at (515) 232-8689.

WEATHER: Because of our November date, inclement weather is always possible. If any rescheduling is required, we will place announcements with WHO 1040 AM radio and other local stations that handle weather related announcements, as well as the phone number listed above.

CLINICS: Clinics on many aspects of modeling, prototype, historical, and how to get started will be offered. We have also planned sessions for non-modelers.The following individuals will provide clinics:

DOOR PRIZES:

MODEL CONTESTS: A popular vote contest will be held with the following categories:

The NMRA Merit Judges will select a Best-of-Show award from all the contest models. A plaque will be awarded for each first place entry, and a certificate for the top three entries in each category.

DISPLAY: If you have a recent modeling project that does not fit into one of the contest categories, please bring it for the model display area. While we must limit the number of contest categories, there is no limit to the modeling skills that we can share and appreciate!

PHOTO CONTEST: experienced photographers will judge photographic prints. Categories will include:

  • ROLLING STOCK (Model) - Color - Black & White
  • ROLLING STOCK (Prototype) - Color - Black & White

Prints should be enlargements or montages, and should not be framed. Mounting on matte boards is recommended; matte size should not exceed 12” x 16”.

MERIT JUDGING: NMRA Merit judging will be available for NMRA members on their modeling projects. The entry forms should be completed before bringing your model to the meet. Please request forms from the pre-registration chairman if you need them.

SILENT AUCTION: Tables will be available for those persons wishing to sell excess modeling materials. There will be a limit of 20 lots per person, and a 7% fee may be charged (depending on pre-registration goals).

DEALERS: Over 90 tables will be available for dealers to display and offer for sale the latest in new equipment in many scales, as well as other modeling materials. Dealers should reserve tables with the Registration Chairman, Bob Folkmann, at (515) 232-8689. Discounts are available for multiple table orders. Tables are 2.5’ x 8’ in size. Table rental includes dealer admission..

LAYOUTS: Several layouts in different scales should be on display at the school. Some local modelers are planning to have their layouts open for tours after the activities at the school are concluded.

FOOD and REFRESHMENTS: The United Community School PTO will have food and refreshments available during the show. Numerous restaurants are located in nearby Boone and Ames.

*A re-stenciled freight car is any freight car that has been bought from another railroad and then been re-lettered, renumbered, painted, or patched in some way. Often, the old reporting marks are still visible. Another term is white lining.
