The Achievement Program

While participation is strictly voluntary, all NMRA members are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the Achievement Program. The Achievement Program is an educational program in which you learn and master the many crafts and skills necessary in the hobby of model railroading.

The AP contains a system of requirements for demonstrating superior skill levels in various aspects of our hobby. It covers building various types of models, scenery, structures, track work, and wiring as well as recognizing service to the hobby and the NMRA, which are important as well. The requirements serve as a set of guideposts for those who are new, and not-so-new to the hobby. They can also be a source of ideas for projects that can help us learn to become better modelers.

Master Model Railroader

The ultimate honor bestowed by the Achievement Program is the title of MASTER MODEL RAILROADER (MMR). An NMRA member qualifies as a MMR when he or she has obtained at least seven of the eleven Achievement Certificates provided that there is at least one in each of the four achievement categories of the Regulations.
